British Fuel Prices publishes what British forecourts charge, from the data they are legally required to report, with the working shown.
Why it exists
The Competition and Markets Authority spent two years investigating road fuel and concluded that competition had weakened and retailer margins had risen. One of the remedies was to make prices public: since 2 February 2026, under The Motor Fuel Price (Open Data) Regulations 2025, every filling station in the United Kingdom must report the price of each fuel grade within 30 minutes of it changing at the pump.
That made a question answerable for the first time. Not "what does fuel cost", which was never really the mystery, but "who is charging what, and does it move when the wholesale price moves". This site exists to answer the second kind of question in public.
What we do differently
Several sites publish averages from this data. Two things here are unusual, and both are visible on every page.
We discard stale prices. 301 forecourts have not reported for more than 14 days. Their prices are shown, marked, and excluded from every average and every comparison, because a figure nobody has updated in a month is not what you would pay today. This is not a small correction: including stale prices makes the widest local price gap in Britain look roughly twice as large as it is.
We publish the underlying numbers. Every page offers its data as a CSV file, and the method sets out what is counted, what is left out and why. You should not have to take our word for a number, and here you do not have to.
Who publishes it
British Fuel Prices is published by Domain Farm Ltd, company number 13544286, registered in England and Wales. Domain Farm builds and runs specialist reference publications. The editor is Sam Allcock.
We are not a fuel retailer, a broker, a price comparison intermediary or a motoring organisation, and we do not sell anything to the companies we write about. Nothing on this site is advice about where you should buy fuel; it is a record of what is being charged.
Corrections
Every figure here is computed from a published file, so a mistake is usually one of three things: the source data is wrong, our processing is wrong, or the figure is right but stale. All three matter and we would rather hear about them.
If something looks wrong, tell us and include the page and the forecourt. We will check it against the source, correct it if it is ours, and say so on the page if the correction is material. Where the error is in the data a retailer reported, we will say that too rather than quietly drop the row.

The underlying data is Crown copyright, published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Our analysis and charts may be quoted freely with a link to the page they came from. Journalists and researchers are welcome to take the CSV files directly.
