Nearest petrol station by driving distance
The cheapest petrol near you is only a bargain if it is worth the drive. Enter a postcode to see every nearby forecourt ranked by real driving distance and time, and by the true cost of filling up once the fuel used getting there is counted.

Driving distances and times come from our own route planner on OpenStreetMap road data, using typical road speeds rather than live traffic. "True cost" is the price of the litres you are filling up plus the fuel used to drive there and back at the mpg you entered. Only forecourts that have reported a price within the last 14 days are shown. Costco sells fuel to members only, so its forecourts are left out unless you tick that you are a member. The location you search from is rounded to about 100 metres before it reaches the route planner, and is not stored. Always check the price on the pump.
Why driving distance, not a straight line
Most fuel price sites measure distance as the crow flies. On a map that looks reasonable, but drivers cannot cross rivers, railways or dual carriageways where they like. A forecourt that looks half a mile away can be a long detour by road, and the one that is genuinely quickest to reach is often not the one closest on the map.
How much it changes. We checked 490 towns across the UK, starting from the centre of each. 30% of the time the nearest petrol station by road was a different forecourt from the nearest in a straight line. On average the drive to the nearest forecourt was 1.5× the straight-line distance, and in 47% of searches the forecourt with the cheapest pump price was not the cheapest place to fill up once the drive was counted (filling 40 litres in a 45mpg car). Across a river or estuary the effect is largest: in Ellesmere Port the cheapest petrol in range was in Garston, across the Mersey, a 25-mile drive. Figures from prices reported on 2 October 2026.
Is it worth driving further for cheaper fuel?
Only when the saving on the fill-up beats the fuel burned getting there and back. A car doing 45mpg uses about 0.1 litres a mile. At around £1.75 a litre, a 4-mile round trip costs about 70p. Filling 40 litres at a forecourt 3p a litre cheaper saves £1.20, so it pays; at 1p a litre cheaper it does not. The table above does that sum for every forecourt near you, at your car's mpg, and puts the genuinely cheapest place to fill up at the top.

Questions
How do you work out the driving distance to each petrol station?
We send the location you searched from, rounded to about 100 metres, to our own route planner, which runs on OpenStreetMap road data for Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It returns the shortest driving route to each nearby forecourt and how long it takes at typical road speeds. Nothing about your search is stored.
Is it worth driving further for cheaper petrol?
Only if the saving on the fill-up is bigger than the fuel you burn getting there and back. A car doing 45mpg uses about 0.1 litres a mile, so a 4-mile round trip costs roughly 70p in fuel. Saving 3p a litre on 40 litres saves £1.20, so it is worth it; saving 1p a litre is not. The table does this sum for every forecourt and ranks them by the true cost of filling up.
Why is the nearest petrol station by road different from the nearest on a map?
A straight line ignores rivers, railways, motorways, dual carriageways and one-way systems. A forecourt half a mile away across a river can be a 10-minute drive, while one further away on your side of the road is quicker to reach.
Where do the fuel prices come from?
Every price comes from the UK government's Fuel Finder scheme, which forecourts are legally required to update within 30 minutes of a change. We leave out any forecourt that has not reported for 14 days, because an older price is not what it charges today.
Does the drive time include traffic?
No. Drive times use typical speeds for each road, not live traffic, so they are a fair comparison between forecourts rather than a prediction for a particular journey.
