How the numbers work
- Source. Since 2 February 2026 the law has required every UK forecourt to report each price change to the government's Fuel Finder scheme within 30 minutes. We read the full dataset every 30 minutes. It is published under the Open Government Licence.
- Averages are simple averages across forecourts, not weighted by volume sold, so they will differ a little from RAC or AA figures.
- Petrol means E10 unleaded, the standard grade. Diesel means standard B7. A tank is 55 litres.
- Stale prices are excluded. A forecourt that has not reported for more than 14 days is left out of every average and flagged on its page.
- Likely errors are held back. A price more than 15p under its own town's average is kept out of "cheapest" lists until it is confirmed. 1 are held back today.
- Our daily record starts on 10 September 2026. The government service shows only the present, so there is no official history before the day we started recording.
- Prices are as reported by retailers. We do not check them at the pump. Distances to "nearby" forecourts are straight lines.
